The Unnecessary Love for Religion

A human being is born in a family following certain religion and is owned by that religion. Some later go on to convert and some abandon it.

Very few of those who stick to religious beliefs act according to their scriptures. They would most definitely look alienated and stupid in the least or bloodthirsty insane if they followed their religion word by word.

For example, here is Quran’s 4:3 ‘And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].’ (https://quran.com/4 )

And here is Manusmriti [the most important and authoritative Hindu Law Book (Dharmashastra)] 270 – 272 ‘A once-born man (a Sudra), who insults a twice-born man with gross invective, shall have his tongue cut out; for he is of low origin. If he mentions the names and castes (gati) of the (twice-born) with contumely, an iron nail, ten fingers long, shall be thrust red-hot into his mouth. If he arrogantly teaches Brahmanas their duty, the king shall cause hot oil to be poured into his mouth and into his ears.’ (https://www.hinduwebsite.com/sacredscripts/hinduism/dharma/manusmriti_2.asp)

And here is Bible Exodus 31:15 – 17 ‘Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.’ (https://www.bible.com/bible/1/EXO.31.KJV)

It is clear that very few of the people follow their religions passionately. Rest of them are just in love with them, irrationally. They can’t shed it off because religion has percolated into their minds instilling the narcotic potion of fear and love. Even a scoundrel who roams around all day in the streets of his town teasing girls and women will take side of his religion in an inter-religious debate. It doesn’t matter for most of the people what merits a religion has or how much of poison it is spewing in the society and regressing it, what matters is blind love for religion. The forced identity sticks like leech in their bodies.

And out of this blind love for religion arises moderation. Moderate this religion and moderate that religion! Aiming to mitigate the extremism. But it is frankly as useless as any form of religion.

Isn’t it clear from the religious texts that we can neither derive any lessons of morality from them nor a scientific progressive attitude? Why the blind love towards religion then? Is it the love for fight? For fight with another religion around?
